This time hotel experts analyzed hotel market of Sochi. According to the official information there are over 40,000 rooms in Sochi. It is the second hotel market in Russia after Moscow.
According to CBRE research, more than 6 million tourists, 40 thousand people of which were foreigners, visited the city in 2017. In 2017 Sochi market faced a slight decline in the number of tourists, which happened primarily due to the cold and rainy summer. At the same time, the passenger traffic of Sochi international airport in 2017 reached 5.7 million people, which is 8% higher than in 2016. Sochi is expecting about 1 million guests during FIFA World Cup 2018. The resort is preparing to host about 200 thousand guests and participants of the event.
As of the beginning of 2017, there are 817 hotels in Sochi with a total of about 41,500 hotel rooms. About 20 hotels in the city are international (about 5,000 rooms). The international hotel chains in Sochi are: AccorHotels, Azimut Hotels, Hyatt Hotels Corporation, Louvre Hotels Group, Marriott International, Radisson Hotel Group, Rixos Hotels.
There were no international hotels opened in the city in 2017 and none will be opened in 2018 either.
In 2017, the average supply of quality hotels in the city was over 50%. The market average rate (ADR) is about 6 000 rubles.
Tatiana Belova Associate Director, Head of Hospitality & Tourism group CBRE in Russia said: “Sochi infrastructure is ready to host six matches of FIFA World Cup. The world championship will contribute to the ever-growing tourist flow to the city. Sochi is used to host major sports and political events: the Olympic games, the Russian Formula 1 Grand Prix, different sports championships, investment and business forums and so on. The city will continue its development as the resort capital of Russia."
