CBRE hotel experts in Russia continue to analyze the readiness of the Russian cities to host visitors of World Cup 2018.
According to CBRE research, the number of rooms in Nizhniy Novgorod will grow 40% by the beginning of FIFA World Cup 2018.
Over the past three years (2016-2018) the number of rooms in Nizhniy Novgorod increased by 503. 482 more rooms should be opened by the beginning of World Cup (a total of 985 new rooms). At the initial stage of preparation, this figure was more significant – almost 2 thousand rooms, including even luxury hotels.
Ibis Nizhny Novgorod Stadium Hotel with 242 rooms and DoubleTree by Hilton with 240 rooms – the second hotels in the city, operated by AccorHotels, and Hilton Worldwide will be opened in Nizhniy Novgorod in 2018.
Tatiana Belova Associate Director, Head of Hospitality & Tourism group CBRE in Russia said: “Nizhny Novgorod is one of those regional cities in Russia where the popularity around World Cup may have negative impact on the performance of the hotel market. Something similar was observed in Yekaterinburg in the connection with SCO in 2008-2009. The city has no potential for demand growth in correspondence with the increasing supply. On the one hand, the branded supply of different categories improves city’s image, on the other hand, it will be extremely difficult to open hotels and to reach average rates in accordance with their expected positioning."
