Construction of the 6 km railway Sakhalin Bridge can be started in 2021. According to preliminary data it will be cost more than 540 billion rubles. It’s 3, 5 times more than cost of the Crimean Bridge.
In September the President of Russia Vladimir Putin told that the opportunity of building the bridge on Sakhalin Island is considered. Now experts are developing projects and performing calculations to justify the investment. It will be ready in December and the best project will be presented to the Government of Russian Federation.
According to projects there will be the bridge with railway only. Also the question about power system is in progress. It’s planned to construct the power line and to interconnect continental and island energy systems. It will affect the economic development of the surrounding areas. According to preliminary data transport crossing The Nevelskoy Strait will allow to increase freight turnover of the railway on Sakhalin 26 times. Besides it will solve the problems with trade safety, supply of building materials and prices of imported from the mainland goods. Moreover building the Bridge will affect the geopolitical situation and also will help to make relationships with Japan closer.
Engineering-geological and climatic conditions of the far Eastern region of Russia are severe. For this reason the construction and exploitation facility like this one requires a special approach. It's important to take into consideration the seismic activity of region, the depth of the Strait and the high flow speed. Experts consider the building of the Sakhalin Bridge can be one of the most difficult projects in history of Russia.
After the Crimean Bridge experience experts are sure, the most important in exploitation is high quality road monitoring system. «A control system that was developed for the Crimean Bridge was unique for Russia. For security reasons it's extremely important not only to adopt this experience, but also to make the system better during the building of the Sakhalin Bridge», – the President of the company EuroMobile, Aleksey Miloslavskiy explained.
We'd like to remind, that the bridge across the Kerch Strait is equipped with 19 cameras, 7 meteorological stations and approximately 400 sensors. They control the traffic volume and speed of vehicles. Information comes to the Control center in real time and 18 dispatchers process it.
