Annotation. The article presents the author's interpretation of the functionality of agent-based modeling as an information basis used in the design of logistics systems. A retrospective excursion into the theory of agent-based modeling is carried out, based on the results of which a conclusion is drawn about the presence of significant advantages of agent-based modeling relative to other methods for forecasting and planning logistics activities. The scientific novelty of the research is presented in the article in the form of a complex of environmental factors that have a direct impact on the planning, organization and operation of logistics systems.
