Annotation. The article scientific approaches to the definition of the concept of «inventories» are considered, a generalized interpretation of this term is presented, taking into account the financial, cost and material expression of the object of research. The purpose of the formation of the inventory management system, acting as a means of regulating trade and technological processes, is noted. The functional responsibilities of management systems are systematized, its compiled elements are indicated. Classical models of inventory management systems are defined, tasks performed within the framework of management systems are considered. According to the results of the study, the factors influencing the effectiveness of the inventory management system have been identified.
