Sole specialization, existence of single hinterland, emergence on the St. Petersburg and Leningrad region container market of strong newcomers – all this influenced greatly the competition level in the industry. The goal of the article is to set out the ways of raising regional container terminals competitiveness. For this purpose current status and prospects of development of container business in St. Petersburg and Leningrad region will be defined.
