Dear readers! We present to your attention the sixth issue of Logistics for 2024. On its pages, we summarize the results of the international exhibition of logistics, transport, warehouse equipment and Logistika Expo, which became the main premiere of this year. Our editorial staff took part in the event, as a result of which they made useful acquaintances and found new readers. In the latest issue, we continue the topic of automation and robotization in the industry.
The showcase "Mobile Robots in Production" with the AGV Mesh-Up@automatica from 27 to 30 June 2023 at automatica in Munich will show what interoperable production logistics can look like.
More and more automated guided vehicles (AGV) and mobile robots are on the road in production and logistics. With the associated automation, the interoperability of the devices is becoming immensely important and open communication interfaces such as VDA 5050 play an important role in this. They already ensure a simplified connection of different vehicles to a master control system in logistics and VDA 5050 also offers a lot of potential for production logistics. This is precisely what the showcase "Mobile Robots in Production" will demonstrate at automatica in Munich from 27 to 30 June 2023. For the first time, trade visitors can experience a production-related scenario with the AGV Mesh-Up@automatica, which is part of the showcase, in which the various vehicles are integrated into a master control system with the VDA 5050.
In hall B4 at booth 338, AGVs and mobile robots from various manufacturers will be on the move on the same routes in the demonstration area. In addition, the connection of mobile robots to production plants and workplaces as well as the transfer of workpieces to production plants and process linking with mobile robots will be shown. The showcase offers the trade fair audience the opportunity to exchange ideas with developers, manufacturers and experts on this topic.
"With increasing digitalisation and automation, the question of flexible networking options for mobile robotics also arises in production logistics. The special show addresses this for trade visitors with a practical showcase: the test run of a mixed AGV fleet in the application context of production logistics in battery manufacturing. We are very much looking forward to the cooperation with the VDMA and are convinced that the special show will be one of the visitor magnets", explains Anja Schneider, automatica project manager.

The showcase is supported by Continental Automotive Technologies GmbH , EngRoTec - Solutions GmbH, the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics (IML), Hahn Automation GmbH, Neura Robotics GmbH, OMRON ELECTRONICS GmbH, SAFELOG GmbH, SEW-EURODRIVE GmbH & Co KG, STILL GmbH and SYNAOS GmbH.
Background
The AGV Mesh-Up was initiated by the VDMA Materials Handling and Intralogistics Association together with its member companies for the first time in 2021 to test the practical implementation of the VDA 5050 communication interface and to share the state of the art with customer industries. 2023 marks the culmination of the test scenarios to date with the largest and most elaborate setting at the TEST CAMP INTRALOGISTICS in Dortmund. The tests were conducted with version 2.0.0 of VDA 5050, which reflects the current state of development.
"Mobile Robots in Production" with the AGV Mesh-Up@automatica is a joint project of the VDMA Robotics + Automation and Materials Handling and Intralogistics trade associations together with Messe München
